TUSTIN — Today, Congressman Mike Levin endorsed Dr. Asif Mahmood in his race to flip CA-40 and defeat Congresswoman Young Kim.
“I have known Dr. Mahmood for many years. We have worked together on some of California’s toughest challenges: Homelessness, health care, education, and climate,” said Levin.
“I can tell you this — Dr. Mahmood isn’t someone who sits back and waits for someone else to solve our communities’ challenges. He rolls up his sleeves and finds where he can help. I have also seen the global impact of his work. He was instrumental in getting Pakistan – and its 220 million residents – to the table for President Biden’s 2021 climate summit. And we have worked together on vaccine equity and human rights issues across the globe. Dr. Mahmood will be an asset for the 40th District, and I look forward to him coming to Congress.”
Dr. Mahmood, a physician and philanthropist, has treated thousands of patients over the last twenty years: patients in the ER, critical care, inpatients, and as they leave the hospital. Asif has made it a rule in his practice — if a patient doesn’t have insurance, his office won’t ask for payment.
In 2018, Mahmood ran for insurance commissioner, raising more than $2.3 million for the race. Dr. Mahmood is in a strong position to take on Congresswoman Young Kim.
